How to Add Events and News to CycleBradford

If you organise cycling events of any kind then we really hope that you will add them to this site!  You can always Tweet #CycleBradford to be listed on our social media and you can also e-mail us.  You should register with us if you want to post directly to the site.

Step 1 – Register as a User

  1. You can contact the site team to request this. Let us know who you are, what e-mail you’d like to register under, what you’d like your username to be and so on. If you like, we can call you at a convenient time and talk you through the process of adding events and news.

  1. Go to www.CycleBradford.org.uk/login to login.  If you’ve been approved/upgraded as described above, you will see a number of new menu options down the left hand side.
  2. Click Events > Add New
  3. Fill out the relevant fields – many of them are not compulsory but ideally we need:
    • Title
    • Description
    • Time/Date
    • Location/Venue (you can add a new one or select an existing one from the list – e.g. the start place for a ride)
    • Organiser (you can add a new one or select an existing one – try to avoid creating a duplicate)
    • If you want, add an event website and price
    • Ignore all the options below price
  4. Add Categories for your Event – from the box at the top right you should choose one or more categories for your event (e.g. Women’s Rides etc.).
  5. You can also add ‘tags’ if you like – these are words associated with your event which might help people search for it (this is optional).
  6. Set a featured image. On the right hand side you can select a featured image for your news or event.  This is the image people will click on to get to your item.  Choose a good image that reflects the event (upload from your computer or choose one of the images already available).
  7. Near the top right of the page you can click Preview to see what your event will look like.  Please proof-read it carefully.
  8. Finally, click Publish to make it live on the site.

Note: You should only need ONE user account to add multiple events – even if these events are under the guise of different organisations or held at different locations.  You can add organisers and venues or choose already existing ones from a drop-down list when adding events.  Please try not to add duplicates.

Add news iconAdding News

  1. Go to www.CycleBradford.org.uk/login to login.  You will see a number of menu options down the left hand side.
  2. Click Posts > Add New (news articles are known as ‘posts’).
  3. Add a title for your news.
  4. Add your news article in the larger box below the title.
  5. To add images click ‘Add Media’.  You can upload images from your computer or use other images already uploaded.  (It is good practice to label your images well – for example the ‘alt’ description provides a text description of the image for visually impaired site users).
  6. At the top right you should choose categories for your news.  You must tick the box labelled news or your post will not appear in the site’s news.
  7. You can also add ‘tags’ if you like – these are words associated with your news which might help people search for it.  This is optional.
  8. Set a featured image.  On the right hand side you can select a featured image for your news or event.  This is the image people will click on to get to your item.  Choose a good image that reflects the event (upload from your computer or choose one of the images already available).
  9. Near the top right of the page you can click Preview to see what your news will look like.  Please proof-read it carefully.
  10. Finally, click Publish to make it live on the site.

Note: Is you news not appearing on the main site?  Check that you ticked the “news” category before publishing.  You can go back and edit your article in order to do this

“I can’t find my item on the main site!” – If this is the case, it may not have been published (you might have just clicked “Preview” but not “Publish” in which case it still exists, but in draft form, not visible on the main site.) If it’s a news item you might not have ticked the ‘news’ category needed to make it visible when writing it.  You can find this item by logging into the site and searching for it under the Posts or Events items.  Make any alterations necessary and click “Publish”.

Alter or Edit Your Event or News Item

  1. Ensure you are logged into the site
  2. Locate your item within the main website
  3. At the top of the page containing your published item, you will see an “Edit” link which you should click
  4. This will bring you to a similar page as to when you first added the item.  You can edit the details from here

“I can’t find my item on the main site!”  – If this is the case, it may not have been published but exists in draft form, or if it’s a news item you might not have ticked the ‘news’ category needed to make it visible.  You can find this item by logging into the site and searching for it under the Posts or Events items.
